Pixel Art

Painting bit by bit

These images must be from 1992 or even older. The drink and Ghostbuster images where done with a reference picture. I don't know about the shuttle, but the robot was one of my own designs.

In the good old days one would paint pictures like these pixel by pixel and with the magnifying glass always on. Well, in those days you only had screen resolutions of 640x512 (Amiga PAL Hires) or similar so it was still a manageable amount.

Deluxe Paint on the Amiga was very good for making images like that and I liked it very much. I later changed to Personal Paint which had better support for higher Resolutions and RTG (graphics cards).

Later increasing screen resolutions made it impossible to create pictures this way. Only TV Paint (later Aura, now Mirage) retained some of this feel which makes it an interesting alternative to the almighty Photoshop.
